Green Commute Initiative (GCI) is a Cycle to Work scheme that lets eligible employees obtain a bike and qualifying cycling equipment through salary sacrifice. Payments are taken from your gross salary, which can reduce the amount of Income Tax and National Insurance you pay.

GCI does not impose its own maximum spending limit. This makes it particularly useful for higher-value bikes and custom builds. Your employer can set its own maximum voucher value, however, so check your employer's GCI scheme before choosing your package.

Your percentage saving is based on your tax circumstances rather than how much you spend. However, the saving applies to the eligible package value, so the same percentage saving on a higher-value bike or build can result in a much larger saving in pounds.

You can use GCI for qualifying cycles and cycling equipment. This can include complete bikes and qualifying equipment such as helmets, locks, lights, tools, spares and replacement parts needed to keep a cycle roadworthy. Yes. You do not necessarily have to buy a complete bike. GCI permits qualifying cycling equipment and replacement parts used to keep a cycle roadworthy. GCI currently states a minimum order value of £100. Contact us with the parts you're considering and we can help before you apply.

If you know what you want from Waller BMX, contact us first. We'll prepare your package and total value for your GCI application. GCI applications can be linked to the retailer and package value, so getting the details right before applying helps make the process smoother.

Corporate GCI is used by registered organisations and requires an employer code. Instant GCI is GCI's pay-as-you-go option and does not require an employer code. If you're unsure which scheme your workplace uses, ask your HR or benefits team before applying.

No. Cycle to Work rules do not allow you to use your own money to top up the value of the goods being hired. If your employer has set a maximum voucher value, your qualifying package needs to remain within that approved amount. You can purchase unrelated additional items separately as a normal transaction.

Your employer and GCI complete the required agreement and funding process. Once your Collection Voucher or relevant authorisation is ready, contact Waller BMX and we'll arrange your order. If your bike or build needs to be ordered or assembled, we'll confirm the next steps with you.

GCI owns the bike during the initial hire and extended loan periods. To preserve the tax saving, GCI normally moves you into a free extended loan after the initial hire. At the end of that loan period, GCI currently allows ownership to be transferred for a nominal £1 payment. GCI will explain your options when the time comes.
